Transfiguration...

Automatic drawing
This is a kind of new road i'm traveling with my art.
Drawing from the subconscious without thought or reference (as far as possible).
I usualy get myself in some sort of meditive /trancelike state with the use of music (my choice: Byron Metcalf). Before this stage i just draw these blob-like little shapes and when i do reach that trancelike state i start to see all these faces within the drawing that i accentuate. It has been said that within this state spirits show them self or even take over the drawing process.
True or not true the process is really fun and interesting at the same time.

If you have any thoughts or experiences on automatic drawing, let me know. I'm curious what you think about it.

Thank you for your interest!

The process you describe is very familiar, I've heard it being referred to as 'open focus' meditation. It sounds pretentious, but I actually find that I have more intense and reflective experiences with 'automatic drawing' or 'open focus drawing' than I do with any traditional seated meditation.

Really great work, absolutely love this one.

I do some automatic drawing, but normally I start with a certain concept in mind. Then I gradually add on random, mostly organic shapes that seem to contradict with each other even though I had no intention of that.. so I just keep going with it, until I get to the point of wanting to re-editing it (in most cases that screws up the whole drawing for me.) -This state you described being in is interesting and you influenced me to expand on it.

There's a great conversation happening in this thread.
The drawing I'm working on right now has gone in this direction. I have the best time creating when I let the music and my fingers lead me on. Unfortunately I have few examples of it in my gallery. None of my art could be called truly automatic. There's a push and pull between conscious ideas and desires, and becoming immersed in the emotion I feel in the music. Sometimes my hands sort of tell me that they're gonna try something, and that's very exciting to be the observer of yourself, in a way.
And I think your piece here is wonderful!

Thank you Carla for the comment and he nice words.
For me it is the most free and pure way to make art.
And for me it is also switching between different stages of consciousness, ego likes interfering :)
